Since Anambra state Governor, Willie Obiano denied the 75 billion naira Peter Obi handed over to him, and equally refused to make public the details of liabilities and assists, he inherited from Peter Obi government, he will be compelled to do it, as Bonaventure Mokwe-led Unshackle the brain foundation has successfully gone to court to seek the leave of the judiciary to compel Obiano to be accountable and prudent.
Governor Obiano was taken before a Federal High court, sitting in Abuja for alleged non-disclosure of the state's financial details.
Unshackle the Brain Movement, led by Chief Bonaventure Mokwe sued Obiano before Justice Abdul Kafarati for allegedly breaching the Freedom of Information Act (FoI) by refusing to accede to their request to disclose the state's financial standing.
The suit, which has Johnmary Chukwukasi Jideobi as claimant, applicant and representative of the movement, has Obiano, the state's Attorney General and the Accountant General, as the first, second and third defendants.
In the originating summons, the applicant sought the declaration of the court that the 'Obiano' refusal to publish the records, information and documents as requested by the applicant in a letter dated November 20, 2015, constitutes a violation of section 4(a) of the freedom of the Information Act, 2011.
Other reliefs being sought include "an order of the court compelling Obiano to publish forthwith, on the official website of Anambra state government, and in a downloadable form, a certified True Copy (CTC) of the statement of Accounts in and from all the banks wherein all the monies belonging to the people and government of Anambra state were and are kept as at the March 17, 2014.
