Deputy speaker appeals to governor to rehabilitate Nwakannia bridge

The Deputy Speaker, State House of Assembly, Chief Hafford Oseke, has appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for works to rehabilitate Nwakannia Bridge at Umuawulu now on the verge of collapse.

Our correspondent reports that the Deputy Speaker who stated this after plenary, revealed that if urgent step was not taken to rehabilitate the bridge, it would collapse and disconnect the community from their neighbouring communities.

Chief Oseke noted that Governor Obiano, has set a precedent in the state by naming the Women Development Centre, after late Professor Dora Akunyili.
On his part, the member representing Onitsha South One Constituency, Mr. Patrick Aniuno , said that Governor Obiano has set a pace by immortalizing late Professor Akunyili who put her life on the line in the course of discharging her duties.

Mr. Aniuno described the former NAFDAC boss as an Amazon and a heroine who made a good name for herself and brought glory to the state during her life time on earth.

The lawmaker further noted that the immortalization of Professor Akunyili by the state government will encourage notable citizens of the state, particularly women to strive to achieve excellence.
He called on the federal government to emulate the state government by naming a befitting government institution, after late Professor Akunyili to keep her memory a life.
