Newspaper vendor slumps, dies at Ughelli hotel

UGHELLI—THERE was confusion, yesterday, at a popular hotel (names withheld) in Ughelli, following the death of a newspaper vendor, who slumped and died at the hotel premises.

The vendor, Abraham Ibobor, was until his demise, a major newspaper distributor at the Post Office Roundabout, and was said to have given up the ghost at the Accident & Emergency Unit of the Central Hospital, Ughelli, where he was rushed to after slumping by the hotel’s pool side.

According to witnesses, the victim who is in his early 30s, undressed to his boxer shorts, wanting to use the swimming pool, but was turned down by the management of the hotel.

He was told that the pool was being cleaned after it had been used for a pool party the previous day.
The victim, it was gathered, ordered for two bottles of beer and was drinking by the pool side when he suddenly slumped and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead from a likely cardiac arrest.

Confirming the incident when contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, stated that there was no sign of attack on the victim, adding that his corpse had since been deposited at the mortuary.
