A young man, John Igwe, has ended up in police net in Enugu for illegal possession of human head while attempting to acquire wealth through money ritual.
Igwe, a native of Offiom, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was caught with a decomposing human head by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command.
The human head, concealed in a black nylon bag, was discovered in Igwe's possession when the policemen, who were on a 'stop and search' operation, flagged down a commercial bus that was heading from Enugu to Abakiliki.
Three other persons who were travelling with Igwe were also arrested, including a native doctor, IfeanyiNwanguji, ChibuezeNwanga and Offorbuike.
In an encounter with journalists when he was paraded at the headquarters of the Enugu State Police Command, Igwe explained that he wanted to use the human head for money ritual.
Igwe, who works as a stone breaker at a quarry site, said he had suffered a lot since childhood.
He added that in a bid to escape hardship, he decided to engage in money ritual.
According to him, he ran into a friend, who in turn introduced him to a native doctor.
The native doctor told him to bring the human head, which was the major item to be used for the planned ritual.
It was gathered that Igwe acquired the human head after digging up a buried corpse at a cemetery in the Emene area of Enugu.
However, he was apprehended while taking the material to Abakiliki, where the ritual was to be carried out.
Igwe, who said it was the first time he would commit any crime, pleaded for forgiveness and mercy.
The suspect stressed that he did not kill the owner of the head.
According to him, he only exhumed the corpse and cut off its head.
"A friend took me to a native doctor in Abakiliki and I was asked to go and bring human head. I was going there with the human head when I was arrested.
"I got it (human head) at the cemetery; I did not kill anybody. It is for money ritual; I have suffered so much in life," Igwe said.
