10th anniversary: Excitement as Anglican Diocese honours Ekwueme, Obiano, others

It was indeed a special occasion at the Cathedral of St. John Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. Important personalities such as the Second Republic Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, the leader of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) in Anambra state Mr Godwin Ezeemo and a host of others gathered to join the Anglican congregation in Aguata Diocese to celebrate its 10th anniversary of the diocese of Aguata.

That fateful Sunday of November 22, was the grand finale of the week-long activities lined up to mark the journey of the diocese, which began in 2005 and with Archbishop Chris Efobi piloting its affairs from inception.
The eminent personalities had come to identify with the diocese, as well as express gratitude to God for the blessings He had showered upon the diocese and its members.

The diocese, indeed, has cause to thank God as virtually everything with which the diocese took off with in 2005, has been multiplied.

The Archdeaconries have been multiplied, the number of churches have increased tremendously while the number of ordained priests have risen to several folds to the delight of Archbishop Efobi and his team of clergymen in the service of God.

In the sermon delivered by Archbishop Efobi at the church service, he enjoined Christians to always have faith in God who has given the people power to overcome all things.

The archbishop said that although the diocese had encountered great challenges on the way to its present height, God gave it the strength to overcome them.

He stressed the need for people to revive their commitment to God whose promises never fail mankind.
According to him, although people have big challenges, they should be delighted, that they have God who is greater than all their challenges.

He also advised the nation to intensity prayers for the peace of the country.
Part of the activities of the day was the award of excellence given to some of the distinguished personalities who had contributed immensely to the successes recorded by the diocese in evangelical work and towards the development of the nation.

Those honoured included Dr Ekwueme, Governor Obiano, one Enugu-born businessman, Chief Anayo Onwuegbu and the proprietor of Orient Newspaper, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo.

Fielding questions from journalists soon after the award, Ezeemo expressed gratitude to God for the recognition and said it was a call for more service to God, the Aguata Anglican Diocese and humanity.

Also speaking, Chief Onwuegbu said it was a privilege to contribute to the service of God and called on all and sundry to use their resources in contributing to the work of God even from the abundance that God provided for His people.
