Obiano Inaugurates 200 Traffic Officers In Anambra

Willie Obiano, has commissioned the third batch of 200 cadet officers of the Anambra Traffic Management Agency (ATMA)

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has commissioned the third batch of 200 cadet officers of the Anambra Traffic Management Agency (ATMA).

This comes as part of the Governor's efforts to reduce traffic congestion in Anambra State, to also curb reckless and careless driving while improving safety standards on the road.

While addressing a gathering during the Passing Out Parade of the cadets at Jerome Udoji Secretariat in Awka, Governor Obiano said the new officers would help guarantee safety, free flow of traffic as well as sanity on the roads, especially in this yuletide.

Tasking them on efficiency in the discharge of duty, he urged them to bring to bear new zeal, determination and energy into their new assigned responsibility.

He also disclosed the concurrent construction of three flyovers in Awka, the Anambra State capital to tackle traffic congestion at strategic points in Nigeria's south-east state.

After he had inspected the quarter guards, Governor Obiano expressed satisfaction that the training they received from the FRSC Training Institute, Udi in Enugu State was not in vain.

He also handed the new officers with their certificates as well as awarded deserving officers who distinguished themselves in the course of training with executive gift items.

The Assistant Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kingsley Nwegbe, assured the Governor that the cadets received the best of training that has prepared them to effectively function as traffic managers.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Ifeanyi Ejikeme, was also of the opinion that the new officers opened a new vista of vitality to the operations of traffic management.

In his vote of thanks, the Commandant of ATMA, Chidi Umezinwa, commended the governor for the kind gesture and assured of the best services.

The new cadets also gave Governor Obiano a resounding commendation with which the event was rounded off with high hopes that they would be up and doing in their discharge of duties.
