The aim of the protest was not to cause violence but to express the
students' grievances in the hopes that their demands will be met.
Students under the auspices of National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), have taken to the streets of Akure to stage a peaceful protest, asking the government to pay their bursary award.
The students of the Ondo State origin accused the government of owing three years arrears of bursary.
Their
protest, which began at about 8am on Tuesday, January 19, saw students
bearing placards that had massages such as “Governor, pay our money”;
“Bursary is our right, not a privilege”; “It is time to pay our
bursary”.
Guardian reports that the President of NAOSS, Charles Iwakun decried
the insensitivity of the state government to their plights, stating
that the students are stakeholders in development of the society.
Iwakun added that the aim of the protest was not to cause violence but to express the students' grievances in the hopes that their demands will be met.
According to him: “We are out today protesting because Ondo State Government has refused to pay our bursary since 2014”.
