The Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Mark Okoye disclosed this while declaring open a two day stakeholders consultative workshop on sector wide approach in Awka.
The workshop was organized by UNICEF in collaboration with SWAP.
Mr Okoye noted that a critical point in a SWAP is the identification and involvement of all stakeholders in the public and private sector not withstanding their roles for the purpose of consultation.
He said that Anambra State SWAP, has an important role to play in re-invigorating the water supply and sanitation sector, adding that justification for the enlistment of sector wide Approach SWAP in the state water supply and sanitation sector rest on its immediate benefits which include promotion of sector leadership and facilitating the much required effective sector governance.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Andy Umeobi, stated that water and sanitation sector over the years had to contend with some challenges stemming essentially from lack of proper integration and co-ordination.
Mr. Umeobi noted that this is the first time the SWAP is being introduced in the state which has a lot of benefits to the economic growth of the state.
The SWAP Consultant, Mr. Roy Ndoma-Egba said during presentation that SWAP is strategic to the Anambra State wheel of development envisaged to make the state to become economically viable anchored on the five pillars of development of the present administration.
Some of the participants, Mr. Clement Chigbo, the UNICEF State WASH Consultant and the European Union water supply and sanitation sector Reform programme Two Community Mobilization Expert for Anambra State outlined the significant of SWAP to the state and called on the participants to join hands in achieving the aim of introducing the programme in the state.
Participants were drawn from all the Ministries, ranging from their Permanent Secretaries
