IFAD empowers rural farmers in Anambra

Commissioner for agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, has commended the international Fund for Agriculture Development IFAD for empowering rural farmers through the RUFIN Programme in collaboration with Anambra State Government.

Addressing the members of seven co-operative Societies in Amanuke, Awka North Local Government Area that recently benefited from the credit facilities disbursed through Oraukwu Micro Finance Bank MFB, Mr.

Mbanefo emphasized that provision of credit facilities was in line with Governor Obiano's agricultural policy of empowering rural farmers in the State.

The Commissioner promised that the state Government will continue to support genuine farmers to grow adding that his ministry will maintain regular contacts with the farmers to provide their needs.

He commended the co-operative societies for the judicious use and timely repayment of the facilities, and enjoined the Amanuke Community to form more co-operatives to enable them benefit from the various programmes of the ministry.

Earlier, the traditional ruler of Amanuke, Igwe Alphonsus Ezebilo, has described RUFIN as the best programme that has touched the lives of rural farmers adding that we community has benefited immensely from the programme.

He called on the state Government to address the problem of non-availability of access road facing the community adding that this had been a threat to marketing of agricultural produce in the area.
