Bride left at the alter turns wedding banquet into feast for homeless

After her fiancé called off the wedding only days before the big day, Quinn Duane and her family decided to turn the lavish $35,000 ceremony into a feast for the city's homeless.

Quinn, 27, was scheduled to wed Landon Borup last Saturday in Sacramento, California. However, a sudden phone call, less than a week before the wedding, caught the bride-to-be and her family in a desperate situation. Landon had developed cold feet and decided to call the whole thing off.

As the deposits for the wedding ceremony had already been paid, the bride's family decided to turn their sorrow into something fantastic – by generously inviting the homeless people in the city to the banquet hall at Citizen Hotel.

Although the heart-broken Quinn chose to stay at home with friends on the day, her mother, 53-year-old Kari Duane, and her father appeared at the venue to host the dinner.

"I feel a lot of heartache and heartbreak for her, but I will take away something good from this," said Kari.

The homeless people they hosted included individuals and families, ranging from grandparents to newborns.

Rashad Abdullah, along with his wife and five children, was among the guests that day. He told local TV station KCRA that the dinner was "a blessing".

"When you are going through a hard time and it's a struggle for you to get out to do something different with your family, it was really a blessing," said Abdullah.

Apart from the expensive banquet, the Duanes had also booked a nonrefundable honeymoon trip to Belize for the couple. That too wasn't wasted as both mother and daughter set off for a holiday on Sunday.
