State government scraps ASUDEB

The Anambra State Urban Development Board ASUDEB has been scrapped. This followed the inauguration of Anambra State Physical Planning board by Governor Willie Obiano, at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.

The Anambra State Physical Planning Board is charged with correcting the irregularities in the Physical Planning of the State as it concerns creation of buildings, structures and the like.

The board has as its Chairman, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Charles Okeke, and Messrs Joseph Agbaizu, Mmadubuko Onwura and Francis Okeke as members.
Others are Messrs Emma Igwebuike, Augustine Obi-Okonkwo and Ikechukwu Innocent Amalu.

Inaugurating the board, Governor Obiano explained that the members were selected based on their achievements so far in life, hoping that they will bring sanity to the system.

Governor Obiano restated that the state has zero tolerance for corruption, which they must work hard to maintain, charging them to pull down all illegal structures and cancel illegal approvals neglected by the ASUDEB. He equally enjoined them to ensure that buildings are constructed with standard and specific materials to put an end to cases of building collapse.

Earlier in a speech, the Commissioner for Lands, Mrs Stella Onuorah, noted that by replacing ASUDEB, the board will institute local planning authority and bring about positive change especially as it concerns building collapse and corruption in land and housing Matters.

Responding on behalf of others, the Chairman of the Board, Colonel Okeke appreciated the Governor for giving them the opportunity to serve the state and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them.
