State govt to partner with health care NGOs

The wife of the State Governor Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano says the state government will collaborate with any International donor Agency or Non-Government Organization (NGO) that is committed to ensuring a healthy living of the citizenry, especially women and children.
She stated this at the 2015 hand washing day celebration organized by the European Union and UNICEF with the support of the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform programme (WSSRP II) Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Unit, Aguata Local Government Area chapter, held at Mbaraoye Primary School Uga.
The exercise was earlier kicked off with the sensitization of the people of the council area by the Wash team on the imperatives of constant and proper hand washing to avoid contracting germs as well as for a healthy living.
Addressing the participants, Chief Mrs Obiano, represented by the Executive Secretary Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Mrs Chioma Ezenyimulu explained that hand washing is the most effective way of disease prevention and control saying that proper hand washing with soap and water can prevent diarrhea, Pneumonia and Ebola.
The Governor's wife thanked the European Union and UNICEF for inculcating the habit of proper hand washing in the pupils, young children and entire Ndi Anambra appealing to teachers and parents to always make soap and water available at schools and homes for the children, pointing out that the state government is ready to co-operate with any organization in promoting the healthy living of the citizenry.
The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Mrs Uju Nwogu who was represented by the Director of Culture in the Ministry, Mrs Nkiru Meludu, said hand washing is very important as it helps to prevent sickness.
On his part, the Chairman Aguata Local Government Area, Mr Chukwuma Umeoji regretted that about one point seven million children under the age of five die annually due to diarrhea and Pneumonia, insisting that proper hand washing is one of the most effective ways of preventing diseases.
Explaining the importance of the celebration, the Wash Consultant Aguata Council Area, Mr Mark Ogbodo said that the event is a global celebration meant to sensitize the people on the need for hand washing at critical times.

Mr Ogbodo revealed that hand washing can reduce the maternal deaths in Nigeria by eighty per cent as well as promoting child survival.
In a remark, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr Uche Nworah represented by the Deputy Director News and Current Affairs Department, Mr Egbuna Amuta, advised the people to develop the habit of hand washing as it is vital to their health and assured that ABS will continue to sensitize Ndi Anambra on the importance of proper hand washing.
The Theme for this year's celebration was "Take a Pledge to raise a hand for Hygiene while demonstration on the right way to wash hands by the representative of the Governor's wife and some dignitaries added glamour to the event.
