Three teachers in Anambra State have been honoured with the prestigious President's Excellence award in recognition of their sterling contributions to the advancement of education in the state and Nigeria . The award was given as part of the ceremony to mark the 2015 World Teacher's Day on the 5th of October 2015 at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
The teachers are: Dr Angela Obodozie, Principal of Urban Girls Secondary School, Onitsha, Mrs Julie Ofoefuna, Principal of New Era Girls Secondary School, Onitsha and Sr Nti Ajokwu of the Queen of Rosary College also in Onitsha.
A release from the office of the State Commissioner for Information stated that Dr. Obodozie, Principal of Urban Girls Secondary School, Onitsha received the Second Best Principal award in Junior Secondary category and Mrs Julie Ofoefuna, Principal of New Era Girls Secondary School,received the 3rd best Principal award in the Senior Secondary school category, while Sr. Ajokwu of the Queen of Rosary College received the best teacher award for Junior Secondary as well as the 2nd best teacher in both Junior and Senior Secondary category.
In a similar development, three schools also in Anambra State have received awards at the federal level for their outstanding academic performances.
According to the release from the office of the state Commissioner for Information, the schools are: Sancta Maria Primary School, Onitsha which received award as the Best Primary School. The Queen of the Rosary College, Onitsha which received award as the best Junior Secondary School and Lorretta Secondary School, Adazi Nnukwu which received award as the Best Senior Secondary School.
