A chemical depot located at Nkpor junction in Idemili North Local Government area of Anambra State, yesterday evening set three buildings: a five-storey, three-storey and another ablaze when the chemicals stored in drums in the depot caught fire and exploded.
Properties estimated at several millions of naira were lost to the inferno despite the efforts of men of the fire service who were on hand to stop the fire.
Two of the affected buildings were Summer Hill Clinic and a residential home located near it. It was gathered that because the three buildings were clustered in one place, the inferno was able to affect them easily.
Contacted, the Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Hassan Musa confirmed the inferno started from the chemical depot, however he said no life was lost and no body had been confirmed injured.
