Today, the Supreme Court ruled on a
matter brought before the Learned Justices by
1. Ejike Oguebego
2. Hon.
Chuks Okoye( Chairman P.D.P Anambra State and Legal AdviserPDP Anambra
State Chapter and on behalf of the other members of the State Executive
Committee of the PDP Anambra State) against 1.People's Democratic Party
2. INEC
3. Chukwudi Okasia.
READ THE JUDGEMENT BELOW
The matter was on whether the PDP was
right to have set up a Caretaker Committee of the Anambra Chapter of the
Party on October 30, 2014 despite a subsisting judgement of the Court
recognizing it in the Suit No FHC/CS/213/13 between Ejike Oguebego
&2Ors Vs. PDP &3 3ors on the leadership of the PDP and also the
recognition given to them by INEC on a letter dated October 23, 2014
with Ref No INEC/LEG/LM/AN/04/V/541.
Ironically, the lawyer to the Appellants(Oguebego & co) argued and was accepted by the Supreme that the case was,
"...was...not about the conduct of a
primary election nor a dispute over which organ of the political party
i.e.the PDP that has the authority and competence to conduct a primary
election..." See attached page 37 of the judgement.
So, how come that the judgement that
primarily decided on the leadership of the PDP in Anambra State suddenly
became a judgement of the Supreme Court sacking the entire PDP Members
of the National Assembly from Anambra State?
Does it mean that our mainstream media
both electronic and social do not make out time to read the Judgements
of the Court before creating avoidable tension?
How could the Supreme Court sack the
Members of the National Assembly in a matter that none of the aspirants
(both those on Oguebego and NASS members) were NEVER parties in the
Suite and were NEVER joined at any point(See page 1 of the judgment for
the parties).
I am still in shock as I have read this
judgement over and over. Even the last page made NO reference to the
elected officials. So, where did our media get the consequential order
of removing the incumbent members of the National Assembly.
Well, must have been job well done and people smiled to the banks.
