The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Anambra Central Senatorial candidate of the party in the disputed election, Chief Victor Umeh, yesterday said the defection of Senator Uche Ekwunife to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a crash ignorance of the laws of Nigeria.
He noted that the defection was in pursuant of the party's ticket ahead of the re-run election in the district.
"By joining APC in pursuant of a ticket that is not available is a decision of ignorance of the law", the APGA candidate said.
He stated this in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State while speaking with newsmen during a civic reception organised for Gov Dave Umahi by Ezza Ezekunna clan.
An Appeal Court in Enugu had on December 6, 2015 nullified the election of Ekwunife on grounds of irregularities and ordered INEC to conduct a fresh election within 90 days following a petition brought before it by Umeh.
Ekwunife last Friday announced her defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party under which she contested the annulled election, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the re-run.
Umeh said the Appeal Court judgment had already disqualified Ekwunife from being part of the election and so, there was no way she could be part of it any longer.
