The football community in Ivory Coast has been thrown into mourning as Elephant defender, Steve Gohouri has died at the age of 34, mysteriously.
The former Wigan Athletic of England player was confirmed dead by the German police with reports that the player's lifeless body was found on New Year's Eve in the river Rhine near Krefeld.
It would be recalled that Gohouri was declared missing on 12 December 2015, after his family filed a missing person's report. He was last seen at TSV Steinbach's Christmas party, and was expected to visit his family in Paris, but never arrived.
Guinean winger Ibrahima Traore tweeted: "RIP my brother Steve gohouri. No Word for such a drama." Gohouri started his career with CS Brétigny, where he played in the same youth team as Patrice Evra.
The late defender also spent two years at Paris Saint-Germain, but failed to break into the first-team.
He made is debut for the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire in 2006 against Senegal.
