The State Government says it is committed to increasing its internally-generated revenue to 2.2 billion naira monthly, this year.
Governor Willie Obiano stated this on Tuesday at the Internally-Generated Revenue Summit, held at Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.
He noted that following the dwindling economy in the country, it became expedient for Anambra State to survive by way of reducing cost and significantly increasing the internally generated revenue (IGR).
Governor Obiano said "when I took over, the monthly IGR of the state was about 500 million naira but now, it is about 1.5 billion naira; in the 2016 Budget, we are targeting 2.2 billion monthly.
"We will achieve this without increasing taxes, hence we intend to borrow a leaf from people that have done it well in the past, using Lagos State as a case study".
The governor pointed out that the state was one of the four states in the country that pays salaries, adding that his administration wanted to use different methods of revenue collection, as previous IGR ended into private pockets.
He, however, urged traditional rulers, President-Generals, religious leaders, among others, to help in enlightening their subjects on the need to pay their taxes, with a view to sustaining the ongoing infrastructural developments in the state.
