Trouble reportedly started when the opposition faction to the elected President General, PG, of the community, Chief Dozie Nweke, stormed the Umuokokpa community hall where the elected PG was presiding over a meeting, armed to the teeth with machetes, clubs, knives and sticks, started injuring whoever that was there and in the process a free -for- all fight ensued resulting in about 20 being injured and properties estimated into millions of naira destroyed .
Reacting to the incident, the chairman of the Welfare Committee of Umumpama Amaoji, Mr Daniel Victor said "we were in a meeting when about 30 youths carrying machetes, clubs, knives and sticks, who claimed to be taskforce of Aboji Akanano Youths, rushed into the hall and started injuring every body and we have no other option than to confront them immediately".
"As war ensued many were wonded from both sides and properties damaged. As we tried to overpower them because we were larger in number they ran away leaving about 10 of their motocycles"
"On a tip-off the Police Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, from Ichi arrived but could not meet the invaders ", he added further.
Also speaking, Amarachukwu Nzelue, a trustee member of Oba youths and Hon. Ebenezer Ajefo called on Governor Willie Obiano to come to thier resccue adding that those that failed in the election which Chief Dozie Nweke emerged as the PG want to usher in crisis in the community.
According to them Nweke should be allowed to concentrate on his infrasructural development of the community .
They appealed to the state police commissioner, Mr Karma Hosea to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the act and thier sponsors immediately.
Meanwhile the SARS team that stormed the place has compiled the names of the assailants for their manhunt and those motorbikes recovered.
