Rare heavy snow hit several central and eastern Chinese cities on Sunday while people were heading back home for the upcoming Spring Festival, or lunar Chinese New Year—the most important festival in China.
In a heartwarming moment, a young mother was photographed keeping her little child off the falling snow by tightly holding onto the clothes used to wrap up the child with her teeth, as both of her arms were filled with heavy luggage.
The heart-wrenching photo instantly went viral after being unveiled by local media outlet Chutian Metropolis Daily on Monday, melting thousands of hearts online.
"The instinct of a mother. Maternal love is the greatest and most selfless love in the world," said a user named @Fengrui on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
"The weakest woman will become strong after becoming a mother," posted @Songqingbei.
"Please show the photo to the child when he grows up," @Yanglaoqichuangye.
"I hope the kid will be considerate and filial to their parents when he grows up…" @BueatyApple.
The Spring Festival travel rush, which began a week ago, is a major event in China and the largest human migration in the world. Every year, millions of Chinese people travel home for family reunion at the Spring Festival. The festival falls on February 8 this year.
