Lagos—A magistrate's court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos,on
Monday, sentenced 30 women to six weeks
imprisonment for prostitution.
The convicts include Funmi Olayemi, Damilola
Ibrahim, Blessing Emmanuel, Grace Nwaokoro, Anu
Titus, Princess Osu, Cynthia Ozumba and Chindinma
Eke.
Others are Blessing Winwah, Rebecca James, Gift
James, Bukola Taiwo, Patience Amos, Oyinda
Adesewa, Funmilayo Ajayi, Modinat Bello, Damilola
Abiodun, Saki Godwin.
Also sentenced were Glory Edet, Blessing Okafor,
Tope Obatula, Shade Afolabi, Foluke Kolawole, Tosin
Ajayi, Bisi Onanuga, Princess Isaac, Esther Akpan,
Cythia Osas, Joy Osas and Patrician, whose surname
is unknown.
They were tried for prostitution and breach of peace
and sentenced to six weeks each with option of
N10,000 fine by the magistrate, Mrs O. Odusanya.
The accused had, during their arraignment yesterday,
said they committed the offence, attributing it to the
handwork of the devil.
The accused were arrested at Obalende area of Lagos
around 2a.m.
The prosecutor, Inspector Femi Alabi, informed the
court that the accused committed the offence on
September 5.
He said the accused paraded themselves on the
streets as public nuisance.
"The accused were caught soliciting clients, which is
against the law of the state," the prosecutor said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary
to Section 142 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State,
2011.
