Anambra residents advised to obey traffic rules

Residents of the state have been advised to obey all traffic rules and regulations for their own safety.
The Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Romanus Ejikeme, gave the adviced while commenting on the non-usage of the pedestrian bridges across the state.
According to correspondent Njideka Okoye, Dr. Ejikeme said that the state government will put measures in place to compel people to use the pedestrian bridges across the state.
Dr Ejikeme, an Engineer, said that the state government expended huge sums of money in constructing the projects for the safety of people crossing the high ways, especially the Uga Junction, Tarzan and UNIZIK axis of the Onitsha-Awka-Enugu express way.
He, however, regretted that many pedestrians have abandoned the projects, risking their lives by crossing the highways which, he said, at times results in their being knocked down by moving vehicles.
The Transport Commissioner said that still ropes and barricades would be put in place, in such a way that people can no longer cross the highway without using the pedestrian bridges.
Dr Ejikeme regretted that people have turned the pedestrian crossings, especially the one at UNIZIK junction to business areas, warning them to desist from such act.
Some passers-by who spoke to the ABS, Mrs Franca and Bernice Maduka, condemned the attitude of climbing the heap of sand at the Aroma junction to cross the road, without considering the risk involved.
