About 3,000 persons from various political parties in Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area have defected to the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, at the on going validation and registration of new members by the party.
Among the new members were 850 former members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who defected to APGA during the kick-off of the exercise by the state governor, Dr Willie Obiano and the national chairman of the party, Chief Victor Oye.
Speaking at the occasion, the governor urged all APGA and intending members to avail themselves of the opportunity of the exercise because the party was undergoing a serious restructuring to enable it enhance its electoral fortunes in future elections in the country.
While welcoming the new members into the APGA family, the governor assured them that they would be given equal opportunity in the party.
The national chairman of the party in his speech said the exercise was aimed at energizing and re-positioning the party.
"We have a new exco and we have to do that to make sure that those whose registration cards have expired will have them renewed and updated. It is an on going exercise and it is going on nationwide."
