RE: Gross violation of the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) and local laws in the operations of oil and gas sector in Niger Delta
Sir,
It is with deep sense of responsibility that we covey our felicitation and congratulatory message on your well-deserved appointment as our honorable minister.
With all due courtesy and respect sir, we decided to make this an open letter, as we believe it will meet our expectations especially as it is through this viable avenue of reaching you without hitches.
We are confident that one of the best channels we can achieve the much celebrated and realistic CHANGE mantra, is to be partakers of the Nigerian project and revolution which has swept across every facets of our great Nation.
It is on this note that we deem it imperative and of paramount importance to draw your attention to the unresolved problems of youth's restiveness in the Niger Delta Region.
Permit us to reiterate here that these challenges and troubles that are raging in the Niger Delta Region wouldn't have been an issue as there is already an existing registered body whose Aims, Objectives and vision is not just to hold brief on behalf of the host communities but also play major roles in recruiting, monitoring and providing Artisans to companies in the area that operate without hitches.
Niger Delta Indigenous Artisan Association (NDIAAN) is a recognized body whose major operational apparatus is drawn from the consent of the entire 51 different associations, as well as community heads and representatives, hence, before it underwent the legal procedures of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). All these efforts are geared towards maintaining law and order in the generality and according to the spelt out rules and Acts of the GMoU and Local content laws.
Honorable Minister Sir!, we are constraint to bring to your notice as every effort directed towards ensuring peace is being hampered by some elements whose personal and selfish aggrandizement are truncating the outlined status-quo of the initial agreement.
This abuse and violation of the legal order as stipulated in the GMoU that is being spearheaded by one Senior Police officer, ASP MONDAY ADODO has contributed a major setback in the region as his factioned plan has climaxed to the extent of raising and encouraging cult boys to do his bidding which he found very lucrative thereby, catapulting the entire region where these oil companies operate into a state of incomplete disorder. Little wonder he has spent over 20years in Rivers States there resisting transfer as stipulated in the civil service Act.
It will be recalled that we have written series of petitions to this effect and even the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase is aware of this sad event. We find it more irritating as every order as dispensed by the IG is being flouted without recourse to its aftermath effect.
As an Association that comprises of sound mind with several professional personnels whose fields covers over 51 trays of Artisanship, we have resisted all forceful situations to unrest and war in the region. The consistent violation of the GMoU and our local laws, if not addressed appropriately will mean the continuous destruction of the socio-economic structures of Niger-Delta by some miscreants who are bent on making the smooth operations of these regions unbearable.
All we request from your amiable office is to address this issue once and for all and to call Mr Adodo Monday to order and the dissolution of his cult gang as they are bent on threatening the existential peace in the area.
Just recently, his actions has stagnated the smooth running of the employment procedures as they have been halted by the oil companies to engage our artisans, the youth and youth elders in their employ as they don't know which group to deal with since there are threats everywhere and multiplicity of groups doctored by ASP Adodo Monday.
We therefore call as a matter of urgency and insist that:
There are available regulatory laws regarding the operation of the aforementioned and lament bitterly over the gross violation of existing laws without any form of recourse. A situation that has caused unemployment, which if not checked will continue to be rife with communal crises and militarism.
Honourable Minister Sir, it is on your obvious records that the membership of our Associations is increasing regularly due to the training of more Artisans by the Federal Government through the Amnesty Programme.
Our aims and objective is JOB CREATION. These are available in large potential quantity and our utmost desire and request is that all stakeholders in this direction should be summoned with a strategic approach towards increased employment.
Please accept our esteemed regards; as we look forward to a response that is beyond political actions but one aimed at averting chaos and ensuring a peaceful and investor friendly Niger Delta Region under your watch.
