An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Barr Orji Nwafor Orizu, has urges the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to issue certificate of returns to Chris Uba and others in the controversial Anambra State national assembly election.
Briefing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Nwafor Orizu noted that the Supreme Court judgment on the matter did not ask INEC to withdraw the certificates of returns it had issued to both Senator Andy Uba and Senator Stella Oduah.
Nwafor stated that based on the judgment, the apex court has not nullified any election, in the national assembly election, because if there was any nullification, the Supreme Court could have ordered for the withdrawal of certificate of returns from the two senators.
He continued: "The judgment by the Supreme Court was that the Oguebego faction of the PDP in Anambra State was the authentic PDP executive in the state which was disobeyed by the party in the state.
He advised INEC not to allow itself to be confused by different legal opinions on the matter, adding that the electoral body should also not be in a hurry to issue certificate of returns the affected parties.
"Let me state that there is no judgment in the land that has removed the senator representing Anambra south in the national assembly.
He will continue to be there because the Supreme Court judgment never said so."
